FAQs

    1. What are the differences between SHRM and GBR SHRM? 

    SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to the practice of human resource management.  

    GBR SHRM (Greater Baton Rouge Society for Human Resource Management) is the local affiliate chapter of SHRM that represents, supports, and advocates for people living, learning, and working in Greater Baton Rouge, Louisiana and surrounding areas.


    2. What is SHRMs Dual Membership program and why did GBR SHRM decide to join? 

    SHRM’s Dual Membership program is a strategic partnership between SHRM and its affiliate chapters to grow and maximize membership in both organizations. It will allow GBR SHRM’s Board of Directors and volunteer leaders to focus on our mission of providing opportunities for connection, development, and knowledge-sharing for our members and advancing the HR profession in the Greater Baton Rouge area by shifting the “day to day” duties of managing GBR SHRM’s membership roster from GBR SHRM to SHRM.

    3. When does the Dual Membership partnership between GBR SHRM and SHRM take effect and how does it impact me as a member of GBR SHRM?  

    GBR SHRM will launch the Dual Membership program on December 8, 2025. The Dual Membership program will provide GBR SHRM members with the convenience of having both their SHRM and GBR SHRM memberships aligned. Members will be able to purchase and renew both memberships in one transaction. This also means that to be a member of GBR SHRM, you will be a member of SHRM.

    4. What is the advantage of dual memberships?

    5. What if my SHRM and GBR SHRM membership expire at different times 

    The goal is to align your SHRM and GBR SHRM memberships so that moving forward both memberships are on the same membership cycle, and you can renew both memberships in a single transaction. When we launch the Dual Membership program, GBR SHRM will complete a one-time exercise of aligning your GBR SHRM membership to your SHRM membership so that both memberships can renew at the same time.

    Once this alignment exercise is completed, GBR SHRM members may be owed a prorated credit by GBR SHRM OR they might receive an invoice for a prorated amount of GBR SHRM membership dues, based on when their existing SHRM membership expires.

    Example: Your SHRM membership expires AFTER your GBR SHRM membership: 

    Sally Sue’s SHRM membership is active until 11/30/2026 and her GBR SHRM membership is active until 12/31/2025.

    Once GBR SHRM launches the DMR program, Sally’s GBR SHRM membership will aligned so that it will now be active until 11/30/2026. She will receive an invoice from GBR SHRM for her membership dues prorated for 11 months from 01/01/2026-11/30/2026.

    Example: Your SHRM membership expires BEFORE your GBR SHRM membership: 

    John Doe’s SHRM membership is active until 03/31/2026 and his GBR SHRM membership is active until 12/31/2026.

    Once GBR SHRM goes live with the DMR program, John’s GBR SHRM membership will be aligned so that it will now be active until 03/31/2026. He will receive a prorated credit from GBR SHRM to cover the GBR SHRM membership dues he originally paid from 04/1/2026-12/31/2026.

    More information regarding this will be communicated with each member individually via email at a later date.

    6. How does SHRM and GBR SHRM identify me?  

    Both your SHRM and GBR SHRM memberships will identify you by email address. It will be important for you to ensure the email address you use for GBR SHRM membership is the same one used for your SHRM membership.

    7. When and how do I renew my memberships? 

    If your SHRM membership renews in October, November, or December 2025: members should proceed with renewing their SHRM membership as they have done previously via the SHRM store. After GBR SHRM goes live with the DMR program, your GBR SHRM membership will then be aligned with your SHRM membership, and they will both expire in 2026! To renew your SHRM membership, click here.

    If your SHRM membership renews in January 2026 or later: members should proceed with renewing their SHRM membership as usual via the SHRM store. When completing your SHRM renewal, you will need to locate and select GBR SHRM as your primary chapter. This will then prompt you to add your GBR SHRM membership to this renewal transaction. After adding a GBR SHRM membership to the renewal transaction and purchasing, your SHRM and GBR SHRM memberships will be aligned together and active for another year!     8. How much will dual memberships to SHRM and GBR SHRM cost?  

    SHRM dues are $299, and GBR SHRM dues are $228 making the total cost of $527 for a 12-month membership which will be captured in one transaction.

    9. Can I belong to more than one local chapter at a time? 

    Yes, you can belong to more than one local chapter. However, only the chapter that you have designated as your primary chapter receives financial support from SHRM. Please consider designating GBR SHRM as your primary chapter when joining or adding Chapter membership to your existing SHRM membership. To add GBR SHRM to existing SHRM membership, click here.


    10. I am currently only a member of GBR SHRM and do not have an active SHRM membership. How will this affect me? 

    All current GBR SHRM memberships will remain active until their expiration. Upon expiration of your current GBR SHRM membership, members who wish to renew their GBR SHRM membership will be directed to the SHRM Store to join SHRM. When completing the SHRM membership application, you will need to select GBR SHRM as your primary chapter. This will then prompt you to add your GBR SHRM membership to the same transaction. After adding a GBR SHRM membership to the transaction and purchasing, your SHRM and GBR SHRM memberships will be active and renew at the same time! To purchase a SHRM membership, click here.

    You may also consider taking advantage of the promotion we are currently offering to anyone that has not been a SHRM member previously. This promotion offers a 50% discount for a 1-year SHRM membership. It is not necessary for GBR SHRM members to wait until after GBR SHRM launches the Dual Member program to join SHRM.     11. Can I still participate in GBR SHRM events if I do not want to join SHRM? 

    If you choose not to renew your GBR SHRM membership upon its expiration, you will lose access to all GBR SHRM members only resources and privileges. We do plan to offer non-members opportunities to participate in select chapter events. Details about these opportunities will be announced at a later date.

    12. I am currently an Affiliate member of GBR SHRM. How will this affect me?
